Breathing Room | Change is in the Air

Backyard Evening Dinner.jpg

Have you ever walked into a room, home, or shop where everything just seemed to rise up to greet you?

Maybe when you’ve experienced this, it’s shown up as a feeling; perhaps a feeling of openness, light, and an airy space. This is sometimes described as breathing room.

Maybe when you’ve experienced this, it’s shown up as thoughtfulness, and being able to understand how the placement of things creates an experience that feels supportive, uplifting, and simultaneously calming.

Maybe when you’ve experienced this, it’s shown up as a feast for your senses, and you’re trying to take it all in because it looks, sounds, and maybe even smells incredible.

No matter how it shows up for you, you know what I’m talking about, right?
There’s a palpable feeling when you find that sweet spot in a physical place and it just feels right.

You may even want to linger in that place because it feels so good to be there and you just want to take in all the feels.

The truth is that physical spaces matter.
They matter a lot, a whole lot.

I won’t bore you with the psychological data about why they’re important and how they impact all areas of our lives inside of the spaces and away from them. (Yes, all areas of our lives.)

Instead, I want to share a tip that will support you in creating healthy, happy, gentle, uplifting, and supportive environments for yourself and anyone else who comes into your spaces.

Are you ready?

I know, it seems really simple and it is that, but it’s also really powerful.

Really take it in this time…

Can you feel that?
Yep, right there in your gut?

So simple, but so powerful, right?

If all aspects of our life are impacted by the places and spaces we dwell, then it’s really important to understand that by making some simple shifts we can positively impact all areas of our lives as well.

Knowing this means that you have the power to positively and actively change all areas of your life by addressing your physical spaces.

A great litmus test is to walk into any room in your house and connect to the thoughts, feelings, emotions, and sensory reactions you receive. Those initial responses will tell you right away if there is something that needs to be changed.

You won’t have to wonder how you feel, it will be obvious and you’ll feel it inside of your body. It may feel overwhelming, claustrophobic, or that something is missing or feels off.

Another way you can tell if there’s a space that needs your attention is if you’re avoiding going into that room. If you’re someone who avoids going home because it’s too much for you, this is a clear message that it may be time to reach out for some professional support. (That’s okay.)

Some people are really great at knowing how to create breathing room in a space. These folks possess some level of intuitively knowing where something is meant to be and they can really bring out the best of any space.

Not everyone has this gift, and if you don’t have it, take heart. You don’t need it to apply the simple tip I shared earlier.

The only thing you need to focus on is:

Since we’re in this time of Back to School, whether you are a student or not, this is a fantastic time to do some clean out, restructuring, and reorganizing.

This is also a great time to streamline as we prepare to engage with the final lap of the year which brings with it holidays, events, family, and friends.

This is the moment, right now to help you get things in a place that feel really great and supportive for you so you can prepare for the rest of your year.

Give yourself permission to make this season of your life one that feels supportive, inspiring, and uplifting for you.
Give yourself permission to create some breathing room

Self care starts at home.
Yes, Self Care starts at home.

If you’re putting off making some changes at home, you’re most likely not making your self care a priority. Let’s face it, highly sensitive people like yourself are even more impacted by their surroundings because you soak in all of the feelings that the stuff represents and then those feelings impact the way you see yourself and the way you move through the world.

So, take a deep breath and know that you’re deserving of taking good care of yourself. You don’t need to do anything or be anything to deserve self care, you’re deserving of it just by being you.

You can definitely make an impact in your life by removing clutter which will automatically create breathing room in your home and in your life.

So, get out your scheduling system and schedule in some time this week to clear away anything that is no longer serving you.

  • Donate old clothes, furniture, and anything else you aren’t using.
  • Recycle anything you can that you aren’t using
  • Throw away anything that’s broken. (If you can’t get it to where it needs to go, call a service to pick it up for you.)
  • Clean out closets
  • Clean out your refrigerator
  • Clean out your pantry
  • Clean out your laundry room
  • Clean out your garage

I promise you that by doing these seemingly small acts of self care, you will experience a huge shift in the way you and your home feels.

This will help you move onto the next level of self care, joy, happiness,
and _____________ that you’ve been wanting to experience.

Self care begins at home.
When you get your home in a place that feels good, you will feel good too.

Don’t over think this one, just start.
Don’t wait for some elusive time to begin.
Begin today.
Start where you’re standing.
You do have what it takes to live the life that you want for yourself.
You are smart enough.
You are deserving enough.
you are ____________ enough.

You Are Enough.

Let this back to school time be a catalyst for you in all areas of your life by spending some time applying this simple but powerful tip.
